As you may guessed it, I recently shut down my DeviantArt account after 9 years. Okay, not yet. Until 9AM at the 30th, I will be. It's been a long search just to find a place to simply post my old stuff. Before what site I decided to dump my old cringe, WHAT were the other choices?
Youtube/Twitch/Picarto.
These sites, I don’t plan on doing any live-streams on making art. Then again, I think that would be very boring because what you mostly see is a white screen or me meandering somewhere else. That’s how I see it anyway. Besides, Twitch & Youtube isn’t really a place for me to crudely draw wieners when I’m bored, and not to mention it’s an easy ban. Picarto is a place for artists in mind, especially ones who draw the spicy contents, but considering my earlier statement and lack of popularity, that won’t be happening.
Tumblr/Reddit.
Thing is, I DID try Tumblr years ago, but the problem is that I’m not feeling it to the sites standards… And thankfully I did, because of the porn purge, and the ones highly affected (aka; 80% of Tumblr users) jump to this site. So what about Reddit? THAT’S a possibility, but I utilize the account for a few subreddits and my own Lost Legends sub.
Instagram.
This place isn’t for me, sorry. I heard that the algorithm doesn’t favor digital artworks, and I’ve been there a few times. Similar to Tumblr, I’m not feeling the vibe about this. Also, I read some article and it stated that the place has a problem with art thieves and mixing your artworks with someone else’s photos that’s unrelated. Maybe not a good place for that.
KO-FI/PATREON.
Not today. I don’t think I’ll be taking your money to draw some art, but one day.
Those are just the few social media sites, so what about ones that are more... well, art focused?
Artfol.
This is a promising app, because it has the balls to do something that many others don’t: Equality… By that, I mean it doesn’t feature the same big mainstream artists on the front page and the smaller creators will have the opportunity to be front-paged. Fun. Downside: It only exists as a mobile app for now. The desktop webpage is broken as the button to take you to a random artist would take you to a random letter related to someone who don’t exist. The other downside is that this feels like the next DeviantArt as I stumble upon artists who are hit or miss in terms of their content. Basically, being featured here is a double edged sword.
BeHance.
This was a possibility. It looks clean, features professional artists, and among other things. There’s one tiny little thing that would throw me off: The site’s owned by Adobe. Okay, that’s kinda petty, because I mained Photoshop for my works, which is CS6… Pirated (yar har). Look, I’m ain’t spending that kind of money for a program I could shitpost, let alone a subscription service. Also, I have Clip Studio Paint (in which it has a learning curve). Anyways, Behance requires you to make an Adobe account, I think, but I’m not taking any chances. To hell with them making me pay a monthly fee & pay another when I want out.
Dribble.
This one WAS ALSO a possibility. Kinda like Artstation, but in a different coat of paint. It looks promising, but when I look at the art content shown… This feels like a different ball game. I mean, the corporate stuff, crypto, UI, and all other nonsense on the front page. What I looked at is that you have to PAY to upload more, and came to the answer that this is not the place where I post random sketches IMO.
Pixiv.
Ehhh… Well, when I look at the front page, what I usually see are anime art, Japanese categories, and even some hentai up front (yes, really). Apparently, I got this feeling that this is Japanese Deviantart, to the point the URL shows Japanese writing at times. This is not the site for me, because I don’t really do anime art, anymore (not that I’m good at in the first place). Another thing is that your user profile URL treats you like a number, unlike my other profiles… Then again, that’s kinda picky.
EVENTUALLY...
Well, I'll be damned if I haven't told you that the suggested sites above are from tabloid articles. Now despite those sites are quite popular, I went on Reddit, look up DA alternatives, and found one journal entry about said DA alternatives... on DeviantArt, ironically.
Unfortunately, my options from that guy was limited - Some of these sites are BRAND SPANKING NEW (and not ready for the public), and one site called InkBlot had a fatal flaw regarding about privacy. Guess it's supposed to be like some Displate clone or something, idk.
The only two sites are either Itaku or Wysp. So I flipped a coin, and Wysp is the winner. I made 2 accounts: One for my newer stuff, and another to post my old trash. Both are under construction, but I wonder why this backwoods art site felt so barren. I posted some of my art earlier today, and believe it or not, these two pics managed to crawl in the front page with less than 10 views. OUTSTANDING.
Yes, these are my ancient artifacts from a bygone time. I used to piss off some members here in the old BBS involving the bottom pic which those threads are nuked and got me temporarily banned a few times. Luckily, I'm a different man than what I was, 12 years ago. BTW, Wysp's UI needed some work. Looks like it's designed for mobile phones.
I'll post my old cringe stuff on the daily, and maybe ask questions on why it's not getting traction after all these years.

Good luck, hope Wysp works out for you. If not, let us know your experience if you can.
