Mace121's News

Posted by Mace121 - June 30th, 2022

As you may guessed it, I recently shut down my DeviantArt account after 9 years. Okay, not yet. Until 9AM at the 30th, I will be. It's been a long search just to find a place to simply post my old stuff. Before what site I decided to dump my old cringe, WHAT were the other choices?

Youtube/Twitch/Picarto.

These sites, I don’t plan on doing any live-streams on making art. Then again, I think that would be very boring because what you mostly see is a white screen or me meandering somewhere else. That’s how I see it anyway. Besides, Twitch & Youtube isn’t really a place for me to crudely draw wieners when I’m bored, and not to mention it’s an easy ban. Picarto is a place for artists in mind, especially ones who draw the spicy contents, but considering my earlier statement and lack of popularity, that won’t be happening.

Tumblr/Reddit.

Thing is, I DID try Tumblr years ago, but the problem is that I’m not feeling it to the sites standards… And thankfully I did, because of the porn purge, and the ones highly affected (aka; 80% of Tumblr users) jump to this site. So what about Reddit? THAT’S a possibility, but I utilize the account for a few subreddits and my own Lost Legends sub.

Instagram.

This place isn’t for me, sorry. I heard that the algorithm doesn’t favor digital artworks, and I’ve been there a few times. Similar to Tumblr, I’m not feeling the vibe about this. Also, I read some article and it stated that the place has a problem with art thieves and mixing your artworks with someone else’s photos that’s unrelated. Maybe not a good place for that.

KO-FI/PATREON.

Not today. I don’t think I’ll be taking your money to draw some art, but one day.

Those are just the few social media sites, so what about ones that are more... well, art focused?

Artfol.

This is a promising app, because it has the balls to do something that many others don’t: Equality… By that, I mean it doesn’t feature the same big mainstream artists on the front page and the smaller creators will have the opportunity to be front-paged. Fun. Downside: It only exists as a mobile app for now. The desktop webpage is broken as the button to take you to a random artist would take you to a random letter related to someone who don’t exist. The other downside is that this feels like the next DeviantArt as I stumble upon artists who are hit or miss in terms of their content. Basically, being featured here is a double edged sword.

BeHance.

This was a possibility. It looks clean, features professional artists, and among other things. There’s one tiny little thing that would throw me off: The site’s owned by Adobe. Okay, that’s kinda petty, because I mained Photoshop for my works, which is CS6… Pirated (yar har). Look, I’m ain’t spending that kind of money for a program I could shitpost, let alone a subscription service. Also, I have Clip Studio Paint (in which it has a learning curve). Anyways, Behance requires you to make an Adobe account, I think, but I’m not taking any chances. To hell with them making me pay a monthly fee & pay another when I want out.

Dribble.

This one WAS ALSO a possibility. Kinda like Artstation, but in a different coat of paint. It looks promising, but when I look at the art content shown… This feels like a different ball game. I mean, the corporate stuff, crypto, UI, and all other nonsense on the front page. What I looked at is that you have to PAY to upload more, and came to the answer that this is not the place where I post random sketches IMO.

Pixiv.

Ehhh… Well, when I look at the front page, what I usually see are anime art, Japanese categories, and even some hentai up front (yes, really). Apparently, I got this feeling that this is Japanese Deviantart, to the point the URL shows Japanese writing at times. This is not the site for me, because I don’t really do anime art, anymore (not that I’m good at in the first place). Another thing is that your user profile URL treats you like a number, unlike my other profiles… Then again, that’s kinda picky.

EVENTUALLY...

Well, I'll be damned if I haven't told you that the suggested sites above are from tabloid articles. Now despite those sites are quite popular, I went on Reddit, look up DA alternatives, and found one journal entry about said DA alternatives... on DeviantArt, ironically.

Unfortunately, my options from that guy was limited - Some of these sites are BRAND SPANKING NEW (and not ready for the public), and one site called InkBlot had a fatal flaw regarding about privacy. Guess it's supposed to be like some Displate clone or something, idk.

The only two sites are either Itaku or Wysp. So I flipped a coin, and Wysp is the winner. I made 2 accounts: One for my newer stuff, and another to post my old trash. Both are under construction, but I wonder why this backwoods art site felt so barren. I posted some of my art earlier today, and believe it or not, these two pics managed to crawl in the front page with less than 10 views. OUTSTANDING. iu_681289_3347235.png

iu_681290_3347235.png

Yes, these are my ancient artifacts from a bygone time. I used to piss off some members here in the old BBS involving the bottom pic which those threads are nuked and got me temporarily banned a few times. Luckily, I'm a different man than what I was, 12 years ago. BTW, Wysp's UI needed some work. Looks like it's designed for mobile phones.

I'll post my old cringe stuff on the daily, and maybe ask questions on why it's not getting traction after all these years.

If you want the TL;DR - I have no further use of that account. Yeah, not the unfriendly UI, not the weird low-quality & fetish art that lurks, it's just one of those times I want to move on. Nowadays, it's just a reminder on what I used to post.

One thing I'm open for suggestions is what digital art site should I go? I only post my finished art here, Artstation turns my crispy PNG's to crusty-ass JPEGS, and Twitter isn't a good option. As of writing this post, I'm archiving my old pics because why not? Preservation is king.

Anyways, while saving my old shit, I gotta take a look at sites such as Pixiv and Behance to weigh in my options.

A new link appeared: I made a Subreddit.

WHAT IS Lost Legends?

It’s a show that talks about lost video games, which can be beta builds, cancelled prototypes, and sometimes ones that either don’t exist or had little info about it. Think Beta64, but talks about the more obscure games. The show is going to be a full 12-episode season, and contained a variety of games I want to cover. The first 3 episodes are released simultaneously on Mace 2.0 & RABIT, and then the rest of them would be exclusive on RABIT.

What a usual Lost Legends episode be like?

Apart from an intro and ending, Lost Legends usually splits down to 4-5 chapters.

Chapter 1 - Brief History. Gives a brief introduction to the game's studios, creators, and the game in development.

Chapter 2 - The Game (or The Supposed Game). Gives a brief overview on the final game. If it's a cancelled game, then give an overview of what was going to be the game.

Chapter 3 - The Builds. The meat of the episode - Covers the game's early builds, demos, prototypes, etc. If it's multiple (or too many), then it covers the most interesting aspects.

Chapter 4 - The Pre-Release. Chapter covers on the game featured in magazine articles, ads, trailers, concept art, etc... Also, some content not shown in the playable builds.

Chapter 5 - The Miscellaneous Stuff. Last but not least, stuff that doesn't fit with the previous chapters. This includes cut content, theories I like to make, and... well, the miscellaneous.

THE SEASON 1 LINEUP:

Since this is a new series, these are the episode I wanted to cover. If there's a link, that means the episode is live.

E1 - Ratchet: Deadlocked (The Demo)

E2 - Gran Turismo (Multiple Betas)

E3 - Battlebots (Cancelled PS2/GC Game)

E4 - Shantae's Sequels (Cancelled Games)

E5 - DUSK (Multiple Betas)

E6 - Re-Volt (Pulled Ports)

E6.5 - Re-Volt Update

E7 - Rayman 2 (The Cancelled 2D Version)

E8 - Malice (The Betas)

E9A - Turok: Evolution Part 1 (SPECIAL)

E9B - Turok: Evolution Part 2

E10 - 3D Pinball (Beta)

E11 - The Rise of Maximo (Part 1)

E12 - The Cancelled Conclusion of Maximo (Part 2)

Where to follow?

iu_600443_3347235.png

Follow the White Rabbit, Alice.

Got games you want me to cover?

If you do, you could comment them down below.

Short answer: I'm a bit busy.

Long answer: I was working on a Youtube series called Lost Legends. Alongside that, I have a new Youtube Channel called RABIT that focuses on the new show. My main channel would focus on just "Mace Things," and I have a few plans on that. Why RABIT? Well, originally it was going to have 4 letters, but the best candidates (RBIT and RABT) are already taken. There are other rabbit-themed names suggested but they don't stand out.

Before I get too ahead of myself: WHAT IS Lost Legends?

It’s a show that talks about lost video games, which can be beta builds, cancelled prototypes, and sometimes ones that either don’t exist or had little info about it. Basically, it’s like the Red Dead & Twisted Metal videos, but a bit more streamlined. Another analogy that's related to this topic: Think Beta64, but rather talks about the more obscure games that isn't Nintendo or Rareware titles. The show is going to be a full 12-episode season, and contained a variety of games I want to cover. The first 3 episodes are going to be released simultaneously on Mace 2.0 & RABIT, and then the rest of them would be exclusive over there.

Right now, the first two episodes are already out (check lineup). Episode 1 was planned to be released in January, but due to my little town being flooded and I have to hole up in a motel for a couple weeks, I couldn’t get things done. Later, I manage to finish what I’ve started, and the results is... A bit clunky. The second episode fixed some issues, and the 3rd would rectify more if I found some more issues.

It’s not just finishing the two episodes, I was working on the scripts for the ENTIRE SEASON since November-December. Some needed work than others, and a couple episodes had to be replaced or rearranged. Most of them are at a point where it’s nearly done, and I wouldn’t waste too much time writing the whole thing, even the upcoming 3rd episode.

Chapter 1 - Brief History. Gives a brief introduction to the game's studios, creators, and the game in development.

The Games to Cover?

As there are things to cover, there’s a few I won’t do like the ones Beta64 covered like Diddy Kong Racing, Mario 64, and Zelda: Ocarina of Time & Majora’s mask. Not because he covered them, but everyone else did it, and what would my interpretation stand out? Yeah, exactly. This season's lineup are all games I want to cover. If you're reading this right now you could throw in a game I could cover.

Another thing I won’t cover is when it comes down to playable builds, right? You really think I should cover ALL 50 BUILDS of Ghost Rider which ranges from a few weeks, days or in some cases: hours from each other? Nah, that would take forever. One thing I could do is cover them by the earliest build and go on by the month, just to avoid making this an hour long segment (and save hard drive space). That's only IF I plan on making an episode like that.

Last thing is when it comes to emulation, I can simply record the gameplay myself. If it’s something else like running an old Windows application that’s not compatible to Windows 10 or god-forbid playing an Xbox game, then I nab someone else’s. Ever wonder the latter, don’t get me started on how finicky Xbox emulation really is. There's only a few Xbox games that could run properly, last time I checked. Then again, Xbox isn't the only emulator I have issues with.

Like I said earlier, Season 1 cover games I want to talk about. This here is the whole SEASON 1 lineup.

E1 - Ratchet: Deadlocked (The Demo)

E2 - Gran Turismo (Multiple Betas)

E3 - Battlebots (Cancelled PS2/GC Game) (IN DEVELOPMENT)

E4 - Shantae's Sequels (Cancelled Games)

E5 - DUSK (Multiple Betas)

E6 - Re-Volt (Pulled Ports)

E7 - Malice (The Betas)

E8 - Rayman 2 (The Cancelled 2D Version)

E9 - Turok: Evolution (Beta)

E10 - 3D Pinball (Beta)

E11 - TBA (Part 1)

E12 - TBA (Part 2)

iu_600443_3347235.png

If you want the TL;DR - I'm focused on my Youtube series about Betas and Cancelled video games. I'm open to suggestions on what games to cover somewhere down the line.

Extra: I still have an Artstation Page.

Yeah, in case you're wondering I haven't posted my art here for a while, to the point I posted a whopping 2 pieces last year. Well, I wish to post some more here, but I don't think the majority of my recent works are good enough for the Art section on this site, so I posted a majority of my art, on my Artstation page. It also contained some of my scrapped works and even a bit of my custom Re-Volt content.

I haven't been active on this site for a while... Well, technically I am, but I just wanna check some of the art I was following. Sometimes I post my own art here... Twice this year. Actually I did made more than that, but two of these are better to post here.

Besides just posting art, what was I doing? What accomplishments have I done? Let me count the ways:

>(One of) The first people witnessed gameplay of Twisted Metal Harbor City, that Twisted Metal Black sequel that was cancelled.

>Got a full-time job.

>Bought a new PC with an RTX GPU. In other words: Bought a PC that could run Unity games and then some.

>Started to use Steam

>Upgraded my PC (More RAM, more storage space, more fans)

>Upgraded my PC setup (new mice, TV, monitors, etc.)

>Found & reproduced THAT Daikatana ad, because no one else decides to do it (let alone find the magazine that has it).

>Learn to do some photography

>Home survived natural disasters. Twice: One was the summer wildfires, and another was a flood occurred last month as of this post.

>Become a patron

>Become a Kickstarter Backer

>Preordered my first game... And it doesn't suck ass. Hot Wheels Unleashed btw.

>Got my first Hot Wheels Redline. The genuine late 60s-early 70s kind.

>Become a Red Line Club member, then bought 2 RLC exclusive cars.

>Finally found that Jampack Winter 2001 demo disc I've been searching for 13 years.

>Bought some Christmas presents for my family members

>Opened a new Youtube Channel for a series I'm working on. Still under construction.

2021 may not be the year of my artistic integrity, but here's to hope that it gets better in 2022... And Nike is counting their days that they need to deliver on making this car Gran Turismo 4 predicted ages ago.

10 years this account stands... A full fecade, double digits of my name on this place. So I was in 7th grade when I discovered Newgrounds, but before the name that is Mace, there was DCXME01. So what's that stand for?

FUCK ALL. There's no abbreviation, but it sounds like some serial code for... something. Back then, I don't know how or why I signed up on this place, but it was probably the in-site achievements where you play games or watch some flash movies. Originally, that was the one intention: make flash-based content... Until I learned the hard way that flash movies & especially games is much harder than anticipated. So I did art instead, and it took me well over 6 years to get scouted due to the site's gatekeeping practices... Maybe to weed out the poor quality art made in MS Paint, but still.

I still do art, occasionally. But now I'm making some custom Re-Volt content, like this conversion from some certain skateboarding game that was recently announced to get a remaster. May not be the greatest THPS level, but like an annoying sidekick, it still sticks around.

So I haven't uploaded a Youtube video since March, people are overreacting on COPPA thinking that they're gonna get fined an unnecessary amount of money because of uploading a video, and Youtube Rewind still blows. So what about me? Eh, nothing much. Tried to make a video, but ideas keep getting scrapped for not being decent, still modeling a certain bunny girl which I started since May, and a possibility that I'm working at retail, tomorrow morning.

Well, nothing much more, but I have watched Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal which is fuckin' awesome (even though half the season was aired), Green Eggs & Ham on Netflix was surprisingly good, and 100% Ratchet Deadlocked like a madman. My little Hot Wheels collection goes strong at nearly 440 cars, almost filling up my 4th case with only 5 cars left to complete the set, but a lot of cars left in my backlog, fit for the 5th case.

So by 2020, I may have a nice fresh set of ideas on what to do, next. Maybe a video, maybe some more art, and maybe I'll find that Hot Wheels Wail Tale which I've been looking for since forever. I used to have that car as a kid & loved it. Shame it only lasted one time in stores and never again.

Moved in since Friday, exactly. It was supposed to be Thursday, but due to lawyer squabbles over wording in documents (yeah, figure how that shit works), it was delayed a day later. I got my own room like last time, but more spacious. Downside is no closet to jam my hoodies in, but not to worry, because my main dresser is replaced with a bigger one, along with a longer dresser to stick my hoods in.

Place looks nice, cozy, had functioning appliances that's not over 30 years old, and best of all: 3 bathrooms. Best to say is that it's the best house I live at thus far.

Posted by Mace121 - July 3rd, 2019

...Moving in 3 weeks, meaning I got a couple days without internet, and a metric shitton of house crap to move. But at least it's not far... Across town, specifically.

So in this house I'm living in, there are some structural problems, and one glaring flaw was it's foundation isn't great. Another was the house appliances are outdated; one of them is the Stove/Oven/Dishwasher combo from the 60s, and the dishwasher was broken. The washer & dryer are on their last legs; the washing machine was fixed, since that transmission was broken, while the dryer doesn't dry that great on cold days... Not to mention the vent where the dryer shit blows out comes in the garage, fogging it up when the garage is closed.

The new house my family & I are moving to had more up-to-date appliances, more bathrooms, and 4 bedrooms. That, and a big shed to store more shit in. Doesn't sound like a mansion, but this is my parent's first time to actually buying a house with a mortgage. Can't fuggin' wait.
